This book was A LOT of fun!! The illustrations reminded me so much of the Whos down in Whoville. The story was so enchanting! It started out with a very adorable sleeping groundhog, and no thought of venturing out anytime soon. Then, the townspeople decide it was time for action!! First to step up and give it a try, was the mayor. Unfortunately, the groundhog says “I am closing my eyes and staying in bed.” I feel that this is pretty relatable. There are days that I would like to just close my eyes and stay in bed.
Then, out of nowhere, a little boy steps up with an idea. He decides to offer the stubborn groundhog the local newspaper. The groundhog is a bit interested, but not enough to come out. The mayor got on his knees and begged the groundhog. The groundhog responds and tells them. not until he is fed. So, out come the townsfolk with some breakfast and coffee for the sleepy little groundhog.
But, even the breakfast won’t do the trick. Finally, out in the crowd, a little girl yells “Get him some slippers to wear!’ Of course, his bedroom floor was a bit chilly. Finally, at the excitement of all of the townspeople, he comes on out!!
Now, whether or not he saw his shadow, is something that I will not reveal! You will have to get the book to see for yourself.
