Grumpy Monkey Valentine’s Day Book Review: A Fun and Heartfelt Read Aloud for Kids
If you’re looking for the perfect Valentine’s Day book for kids, the Grumpy Monkey series is always a great choice — and this Valentine’s-themed story is no exception.
I absolutely love the Grumpy Monkey books, and this one is especially perfect for little boys (though truly, any child will enjoy it). I have several grandsons, and they can’t get enough of Jim Panzee and his hilarious adventures.
In this Valentine’s Day story, poor Jim Panzee has had enough of all the kissing, hugging, and lovey-dovey stuff. He thinks it’s just plain gross! His dramatic reactions are funny, relatable, and perfect for kids who aren’t quite sure how they feel about all the Valentine’s excitement. That’s what makes this such a wonderful read aloud for Valentine’s Day.
What I appreciate most about this book is the message behind the humor. While many Valentine’s Day books for children focus on romantic love, this story reminds us that love comes in many forms — love for family, friends, classmates, and the people who make our lives special. It’s a meaningful reminder that Valentine’s Day is about more than just couples.
Valentine’s Day has always been one of my favorite holidays, and this book sheds a fresh and thoughtful light on it. The illustrations are fantastic, as always — expressive, colorful, and full of personality. And the story offers more depth than you might expect, delivering both laughs and heart.
If you’re searching for children’s books about love and friendship, or a fun Valentine’s Day read aloud that even reluctant little romantics will enjoy, this Grumpy Monkey book is a wonderful choice.
